Requirements on Customer Owned Piping

Customer Notification 192.16 requires that we notify you regarding buried gas piping beyond our gas meter.

  • • All piping beyond the gas meter is customer owned and not maintained by the Harriman Utility Board.

  • • Buried pipe that is not maintained, may be subject to the potential hazards of corrosion and leakage.

  • • Buried gas piping should be:
    • • Periodically inspected for leaks.
    • • Periodically inspected for corrosion if the piping is metallic; and
    • • Repaired if any unsafe condition is discovered.

  • • Licensed plumbing and/or heating contractors may be contacted to assist in locating, inspecting and repairing customer owned gas piping.

  • • If you plan to dig on your property, TN 811 should be called three days in advance so that all underground utility piping can be marked.

  • • Digging in marked areas should be performed cautiously, using only hand tools.
