Journeyman Lineman

Harriman Utility Board is currently seeking a Journeyman Lineman to construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems in accordance with industry standard practices and the policies of Harriman Utility Board. You must have a high school diploma and have successfully completed a certified lineman apprenticeship program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Carry out the performance of the job utilizing all required safety procedures and equipment
  • Perform energized and de-energized line work using climbing tools and/or aerial lifts
  • Perform on-call standby duties as required by the department
  • Possess the ability to climb and do physically demanding tasks under extreme working conditions
  • Must be able to report to work within 30 minutes on short notice or must be willing to relocate within 6 months
  • Must have and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License

Certified or Non-Certified GWS Utility Worker

The Harriman Utility Board (HUB) has an immediate opening for a Gas, Water & Sewer Utility Worker. This position is responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining natural gas, water, and sewer facilities. The successful candidate will be willing and able to work unplanned overtime and commit to a 24/7 on-call rotation schedule, which is typically every 3rd week during which the successful candidate must be able to report to work within 30 minutes of being called. This position must also be available to respond to emergency situations. This position is subject to extreme outdoor temperatures, adverse weather conditions, and exposure to insects and animal bites.

Responsibilities:  Assist with installing, operating, and maintaining natural gas, water, and sewer facilities. 

Preference may be given to a candidate that currently holds a Distribution (Grade I or II) and/or Collection (Grade I or II) certification from the State of Tennessee. Applicant must be willing and able to obtain such within 3 years of employment. This position must also be able to obtain their CDL license within 12 months of employment. Preference will be given to applicants with five or more years’ experience working in water, wastewater, and/or natural gas utilities.

Water Treatment Plant Operator

The Harriman Utility Board (HUB) has an immediate opening for a Water Treatment Plant Operator for its 3.2 MGD surface water treatment facility. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the water treatment plant and pump stations to ensure State-certified drinking water that meets or exceeds all regulatory standards. Job duties include, but are not limited to: laboratory testing; basic, routine maintenance and operation of pump stations; monitoring trouble alarms; monitoring the distribution system tanks and pumping stations; distribution system flushing; performing janitorial and grounds duties; and performing any other duties that might be assigned by management.

Requirements: Eligible candidates will possess a Water Treatment (Grade III or IV) certification from the State of Tennessee or be able to obtain such within 18 months of employment. In addition, successful candidate shall be able to lift 75 lbs; work in confined spaces and at heights; be willing and able to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays; and possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Tennessee. Preference may be granted to applicants who have previously served in a similar capacity for a water treatment facility. College coursework is preferred but not required for hiring.
